Fashion is one of the more polluting industries in the world: some place it in between the 2nd and the 5th most polluting businesses globally. Considering the fabrication processes involved, the use of chemicals such as dyes, and the CO2 emissions caused by factories, fashion now faces a breaking point and needs more creative ways of working.

Thinking about the many possibilities for the future of fashion, two local designers created Distopy, a clothing brand firmly rooted in ecofashion with low impact manufacturing processes and recycled materials.

Providing their costumer with fashionables clothes is only half of Distopy’s mission: these clothes should also be made in a more conscious way by reusing materials such as silk, cotton and wool, as it is more environmentally friendly to re-use and recycle than to create from scratch.

An up-and-coming trend

New brands, such as Distopy, are constantly aiming for a more conscious customer who cares about the negative impacts their consume habits and everyday items have on the planet. As a result, we are seeing emerging brands and markets that decide to not join the traditional manufacturing cycle that relies on energy and water waste, resulting in unused by- products.

Rather, they create their own innovative, environment- conscious processes and offer crafty, high-quality and even handmade and artisanal products at an accessible price.
